Madhubani Buddha Painting On Silk
Hand Painted Madhubani Art From Patna, Bihar
All of our Madhubani Art comes from Angana Art Gallery in Patna, run by resident artist Malagupta. Madhubani art originated in the northern part of Bihar, a region that has a distinct regional identity and language that reportedly spans 2500 years. The painting was traditionally done on freshly plastered mud walls and floors of huts, but now they are also done on cloth, handmade paper, canvas, silk as well as other materials. Madhubani painting has remained confined to a compact geographical area and the skills have been passed on through centuries, the content and the style have largely remained the same. And that is the reason for Madhubani painting being accorded the coveted "Geographical Indication" status.
